 Procedure to change the pump gland packing.

Ans:

i)        Ensure the packing is damage or has lost its properties.

ii)       Remove gland follower nut & pull back the gland follower.

iii)     Remove packing & lantern ring by using gland extractor. Care required to being damage of stuffing box wall.

iv)     Clean the housing carefully & inspect the shaft if there any damage

v)      Select packing according to the manufacture. (Or measure shaft diameter & stuffing box inner diameter by substitute get the packing diameter, measure stuffing box depth to know how many packing required.)

vi)     Cut the packing with a sharp knife straight or 45 degree angle to make ring.

vii)   Place the first packing ring & place it around the shaft & verify that the end of packing joine.

viii)  Place all the packing & lantern ring as they were previously.

ix)     Take gland follower & press the ring into position.

x)      Now tightening the gland follower with nut but over tightening may result in over temp so loose the nut & tight again with finger.

xi)     Adjustment may require while the pump is in operation.
